MANILANS URGED TO DONATE BLOOD

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna appealed for blood donations from Manilans, stating that patients who need blood will benefit from it.

Lacuna said that it is very hard to look for blood which is why she made the appeal, as she directed those interested to go to the office of Sta. Ana Hospital Director Dr. Grace Padilla whose staff will check if the donor is qualified and fit to donate.

“Alam natin kung gaano kahirap maghanap ng dugo para sa mga pasyente, kaya’t hihikayatin din natin ang ating mga kapwa Manilenyo na may kakayahang magbigay ng kanilang dugo na dito na sa Sta. Ana Hospital magpunta. Hindi naman natin kailangang hintayin na tayo o ang mahal sa buhay natin ang mangailangan bago tayo makaisip ng pagdo-donate ng dugo. Bagkus, gawin natin itong daan sa pagkakawang-gawa,” the mayor said.

Padilla said the Hospital Blood bank facility is a vital component of a tertiary hospital service, as it aims to be self-reliant with its blood and blood products. This aims to ensure compliance. with standards by adopting the principle of voluntary blood donation. SAH Blood bank aims to ensure that these ethical principles are taken on, with its operations towards acquiring, a steady blood and blood products supply.

“Such will be the City of Manila and Sta Ana Hospital’s response, to cases like medical cases that include excessive blood loss seen Dengue, trauma, postpartum hemorrhages, blood disorders like anemias, and leukemia, thalassemia) and even plasma disorders (Hemophilia and other clotting factors deficiencies) and Major Surgical Operation where blood and blood products are very much needed,” Padilla said.

Lacuna earlier signed a Deed of Donation with the Jaime Ongpin Foundation which sponsored the Sta. Ana Hospital’s Blood Bank which will store blood that can be used by patients who have undergone operation and who need blood. (JERRY S. TAN)
