Mayor Honey Lacuna yesterday said that the city government of Manila is focusing on further strengthening and improving its primary healthcare services in view of the forthcoming implementation of the universal health care bill.
She said that the Manila Health Department, headed by its chief Dr. Arnold ‘Poks’ Pangan, is currently embarking on having the city’s more than 50 health centers improved to their fullest.
Among these, Lacuna commended the newly-renovated Legarda health center in Sampaloc.
“Two floors siya, maganda ang ganda at kumpleto sa mga kagamitan.
Para lalong mapaganda ang ating primary healthcare. Importante ito, lalo na sa full implementation ng universal health care bill,” the lady mayor said.
Lacuna has also held a local health board meeting still in preparation for the universal health care bill implementation.
With full improvements introduced in health centers, Lacuna said the volume of patients in the six city-run hospitals will be decreased.
As an offshoot, Lacuna said that the workload of medical personnel will also be lessened, citing the huge volume of patients that they attend to on a day-to-day basis, since all the services in the six city hospitals are being offered to the residents and even non-residents, for free.
