MAYOR Isko Moreno and Vice Mayor, now incoming Mayor Honey Lacuna, inaugurated a new open air promenade and Instagrammable spot for the residents of Manila.
The city’s top two officials were joined by incoming Vice Mayor Yul Servo and third district Congressman Joel Chua, along with city engineer Armand Andres, city electrician Randy Sadac and city architect Pepito Balmoris in the inauguration of the newly-redeveloped Plaza Yuchengco located in Escolta, particularly along Muelle del Banco Nacional.
In his speech, Moreno also acknowledged the presence of barangay officials and third district Councilors Tol Zarcal, Fa Fugoso, Terence Alibarbar, Apple Nieto, Maile Atienza and Jong Isip as well as the Yuchengco Group of Companies led by its chair Helen Yuchengco-Dee, whom he thanked for undertaking the said project at no cost to the city.
The new promenade is about 300 meters long, covering four streets -Yuchengco, Soda, Pinpin and Burke Streets from Jones Bridge to MacArthur Bridge.
Moreno thanked Dee for the help being extended to the city, noting her plan to develop the area as a ‘lovers’ lane’ where couples may stroll and while the time away.
In the said plaza, visitors will find a display of 24 best flowering native trees, a main plaza with marker, 28 double lamp posts, concrete walkways with bike lanes, 40 plant boxes, plant wells, green spaces and benches, among others.
Moreno said naming the new spot ‘Yuchengco Plaza’ is the local government’s simple way of thanking the Yuchengcos for their effort in helping beautify the city.
“Ito ang aming small token, na ang Yuchengco Park ay maipangalan sa mga ninuno at pamilya ninyo, para sa pagiging mabuti ninyo sa mga taga-Maynila. Masuwerte ang barangay dito, biglang aliwalas ang riverbank ng Escolta,” Moreno said. (Baby Cuevas)
