HONEST MIAA EMPLOYEE RETURNS DOCS, MONEY TO JAPANESE PASSENGER

A MAINTENANCE personnel assigned at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 showed honesty in the line of duty when he returned documents and cash that belonged to a Japanese passenger who arrived over the weekend.

The Japanese, Maeda Tatsuya, profusely thanked Nelson Palo, a building attendant (BA) of Omniworx, after he recovered his money amounting to P20,500 and important documents.

It turned out that Tatsuya left the money and documents at the immigration area, particularly at the counter assigned for filling up the immigration embarkation card that is required upon arrival.

Palo, while performing his official duties at immigration area at 4:12 p.m. on Saturday, noticed the plastic folder unattended.

When no one was claiming ownership as he asked around, he immediately turned over the same to the Intelligence Investigation Division (IID) Lost and Found Section for safekeeping.

Lost and Found staff Jude Rendell and Alejada Dabi conducted an inventory and found inside the folder documents and a white envelope containing the said amount in peso bills.

During the inventory, the possible owner was identified as Tatsuya, based on the Health Pass found inside the folder and e-ticket (JL0741) dated August 5, 2022 which arrived in Manila at around 1:30 p.m.

Tatsuya was immediately notified through his email address and he personally went to NAIA terminal 1’s IID lost and found section to claim the said items yesterday.

He thanked the building attendant who found his items and it was not known if he gave any reward to Palo. (Baby Cuevas)
