TWO workers were killed when an elevator car being repaired dropped straight on them, from the 38th floor Burgundy Corporate Tower at around 2:55 a.m. on Friday, all the way to where the works are reportedly being done at the sixth floor.
The Burgundy Corporate Tower, located on Gil Puyat Avenue, Barangay Pio del Pilar, Makati City, is said to be among the tallest buildings in the business district of Makati.
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) identified the two fatalities as Manuel Linayao and Rey Miguel Gilera, both of whom are elevator installers. The names of those injured have not been released as of presstime.
Police said that Linayao and Gilera were on the 6th floor of the building trying to fix the elevator. Suddenly, the elevator collapsed from the 38th floor, falling right on them.
“The abovementioned victims/deceased and with two other elevator installers… were fixing an elevator at 6th Floor when suddenly an elevator [coming] from 38th Floor accidentally fell to basement that resulted [in] the death of herein victims and injured two others,” the report said.
Initial reports said two other workers got hurt and an investigation is being conducted about the incident by different concerned agencies. (Philip Reyes)
