THE Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) apologized to the Terminal 3 passengers and other airport stakeholders for the inconvenience brought about by a power interruption that began at about 11 p.m. Friday night until early morning of Saturday.
Public affairs office chief Ma. Consuelo Bungag said the power outage disrupted airport operations as the airlines had to resort to manual check-in and loading of baggage while processing of passengers at immigration took longer than usual.
Bungag said the MIAA Management together with Meralco conducted a joint probe to determine the cause of the problem which was traced to the Terminal 3 power substation.
As of 6 a.m. on Saturday, the electric power in all areas of the Terminal has been restored, as16 international and 15 domestic flights were affected by the incident.
Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista and MIAA General Manager Cesar Chiong who were in the terminal early on, assured the public that action is now being undertaken to prevent a recurrence of the said incident.
Cebu Pacific, which operates mainly in the said terminal, advised its passengers that electricity has been restored at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 (NAIA T3) and said it is highly encouraging its guests to check in online in order to expedite the boarding process.
CEB also announced that as the airport recovered from the power outage and as the situation begins to normalize, delays are inevitably expected in some of the flights as they continue to manage the situation.
The airline said it will provide an update as soon as more information becomes available.
