THE Bureau of Customs- Port of NAIA (BOC-NAIA) is stepping up border security due to the holiday season.
As the influx of balikbayan boxes and gifts from Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) is expected to increase due to the onset of the holiday season, the Port assured to provide 24/7 non-intrusive examinations while expediting releases to avoid delays and backlogs.
The BOC-NAIA headed by District Collector Mimel Talusan said it is also in cooperation with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) to enhance K-9 screening and guard against importations of illegal drugs.
In addition, the Port also deployed the Trace Detection System (TDS) to reinforce non-intrusive scanning capabilities and combat agricultural smuggling in the country.
In a statement, Talusan stressed that the BOC-NAIA is the nation’s premier Port acting as an international gateway to the Philippines and assured that the Port is ready for the influx of Christmas packages and travelers.
The BOC-NAIA, under the guidance of Customs Commissioner Yogi Filemon L. Ruiz, remains committed in protecting the Philippine borders and providing quality public service to all stakeholders, she said. (Baby Cuevas)
