The kind of support that the administration of Mayor Honey Lacuna had been getting from fellow government officials and the private sector as well is a clear validation of the quality of work that she gives, as the first lady executive of the country’s capital city, no less.
From President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’Marcos, Jr. himself, to First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos, also known as ‘LAM,’ other high-profile government officials have also shown their support for Manila one after another, with some even doing a repeat.
Why, even no less than House Speaker Martin Romualdez, Jr. has joined the growing list of those who have put their trust on the administration of Lacuna in ensuring that the help they extend go to the most deserving residents of Manila and are put to really good use.
This cannot be more emphasized by the recent appearance of the First Lady in many activities in Manila. In fairness to the First Lady, while she is more than willing to lend her presence specially in activities meant to help the needy, she would readily tell organizers that she is not into delivering speeches or messages.
Senators also regularly choose Manila as a recipient of their AICS or Assistance to Individuals in Crisis. Among those who have extended such help are Senators Bong Revilla, Loren Legarda and Grace Poe. Many others have also pledged to do the same and the city government is just awaiting them.
And mind you. The support that these kind-hearted government officials extend would not be a one-time thing as they have assured Mayor Honey of continous assistance.
Notably in the case of Speaker Romualdez, he did not only vow to complete with necessary facilities the cancer center named after his father, the late Gov. Benjamin Romualdez and which is now under construction in a prime lot provided for by Mayor Honey for the purpose.
The speaker has also openly assured that Mayor Honey will get all the help that may be needed for the building of the center which is aimed at providing free medical help for residents with cancer and which will sit inside the compound of the Ospital ng Maynila, the city’s flagship hospital.
The center, according to Speaker Romualdez, will have his full backing in terms of funding. all throughout his term. He added that his family is also willing to underwrite whatever else would be needed to complete the services and equipment that would be needed in the said project.
Imagine, Speaker Romualdez himself repeatedly addressing Mayor Honey as ‘Mam’ and even saying that he has seemingly become a ‘yes man’ in assuring the lady mayor of his support?
Although our equally humble lady mayor cringes in embarassment at how the Speaker addresses her, the treatment of Speaker Romualdez is a clear indication of the kind of respectability that Mayor Honey exudes.
Indeed, she is a very decent public servant who has never been linked to any corrupt actitivites. This must be why politicians are confident in channeling their help for needy Manilans through her adminisetration. They know that their money will be safe and well-spent and will go to the intended purposes.
Ditto with businessmen who have also been praising Mayor Honey for her austerity in governance, as well as efficient and careful handling of the city’s funds, making sure that everything is well accounted for and spent wisely and correctly.
This is one trait that we in Manila can proudly say our Mayor, Honey Lacuna, possesses. She consistently promotes transparency when it comes to pubic funds and espouses propriety even among her fellow city officials.
She is not corrupt and her service record is not tainted with any.
In Manila, this is exactly how we roll.
