MAYOR BASTE DUTERTE APPEARS AT SISTER’S IMPEACHMENT TRIAL

Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte on Tuesday (Sept. 29) attended the Day 31 of the Senate impeachment trial of his sister, Vice President Sara Duterte.

Appearing as a ‘hostile witness’ for the prosecution, Mayor Duterte was called to testify regarding Davao City government records and transactions involving GenCorp Industries Inc., a company linked to the Vice President.

The impeachment court declared him as a hostile witness, after the prosecution cited a basis to characterize his testimony as adverse.

Earlier on, Presiding Officer Francis “Chiz” Escudero granted the mayor’s request to attend the hearings scheduled for September 29 and 30, 2026.

Mayor Duterte had no choice but to attend, after receiving a subpoena from the Impeachment Court.

Among others, the mayor was asked regarding transactions in Davao City and allegations that he did not voluntarily disclose or declare the business interests and wealth of his sister.

He commented that the trial is politically-motivated and meant to stop her sister from running in the 2028 presidential elections.
