Heard that the authorities are currently probing the circumstances surrounding the previous donations of motorbikes to the police of Manila and Tarlac, based on a reported from a news wire agency.
Well, as far as the city of Manila is concerned, our local government accepts donations that are duly endorsed by legitimate organizations that are highly-reputable and have been in existence for the longest time.
We also believe, presume and are confident that as such, everything is in proper order each time such organizations donate to the city.
While the news wire agency report says that the Manila Police District received motorbikes from men apprehended recently by the NBI and branded as spies, this charge is being strongly denied by the Beijing government.
Anybody or any organization that wants to donate is acceptable to the city government, most especially if they are coursed through reputable organizations like the Chinese Federation.
Most Chinese organizations course through their donations to the federation and it is no longer for us to confirm or vet when the federation already says everything is in order whenever they donate. The federation is composed of respectable leaders from the various sectors in the country, particularly in the business industry.
If indeed there is anything suspicious about any donors, it is the job of the Interpol to inform us through the concerned agencies if there is any red notice or whatever that we should be wary about.
Imagine, if the motorcycles were donated to the police units themselves, then the police should have known the circumstances, if any, beforehand.
According to our mayor’s spokesperson and head of communications, Atty. Princess Abante, the donated motorcycles to the Manila Police District consisted of nine 2016 models and one 2015 model of Sinski motorcycles worth P14,500.00 each, for a total value of P145,000.
The motorcycles were registered with the LTO by the donors before the turnover.
Aside from that., the Office of the Mayor did not receive cash donations from them. Only the motorcycles for the MPD.
Since the Philippine National Police (PNP) has started its probe on the said donations, we leave the issue at that.
As I have said, we are under no obligation to question the organizations through which donations are coursed through, most particularly if such organizations are reputable and legitimate. These are countless.
If there is anything off about the source of the donations, it is for the PNP to thwart them and do the city government a favor by notifying us of anything we should be cautious in dealing with.
