Dinakip ng MANILA Police District (MPD) ang limang katao na nagbebenta umano ng mga pagkaing may tampered expiration dates. Ayon kay Lt.Col. Edward Samonte, hepe ng Smart unit, ang lima ay kinasuhan ng paglabag sa RA 7394 o the Consumer Act of the Philippines) at RA 10611 o Food Safety Act of 2013 sa piskalya ng Maynila.
Ito ay sina Melvin Imperial, 36; Allen Bautista, 21; John Sagun, 23; Analyn Colangoy, 33 at Geelyn Santillan, 32, pawang nakatira sa Quiapo, Manila.
Ang operasyon ay isinagawa 9:30 ng umaga nitong June 16 sa kanto ng Vllalobos at Palanca Streets sa Barangay 386, Quiapo, Manila, kasama ang personnel ng Plaza Miranda PCP na pinamumunuan ni PMaj. Fredwin Sernio.
Sa ulat nina Assistant Smart chief Capt. Agapito Yadao, Jr. at investigator on case PSSg Alfon Nuevas, nabawi ng pulisya ang assorted expired food products na may halagang P950,000 pati na din tatlong piraso ng tampering device.
Ani Samonte, isang regular confidential informant ang nagsumbong ukol sa bentahan ng mga expired goods na delikado kapag nakain ng tao.
Matapos ang surveillance at test-buy ay isinagawa ang operasyon at naaktuhan ang mga suspek na nagbebenta ng mga expired merchandise.
“Further observation revealed that the suspects were likewise engaged in tampering with the expiration dates of the products to make them appear unexpired and safe for consumption, which resulted to their arrest and eventual recovery of the evidence,” ani Samonte.
“The suspects were informed the nature of their arrest and apprised of their Constitutional rights in a language known to and understood by them. Subsequently, they were brought to Justice Abad Santos Medical Center for medical examination and then tp the office of Samonte for documentation and proper disposition of the case,” dagdag pa niya.
