Nanawagan si Supreme Court (SC) Senior Associate Justice Marvic M.V.F. Leonen sa 2014 graduates na gawing makabuluhan ang demokrasya bansa.
“It is time that we seek others and truly and authentically communicate with them. It is time that we find the courage to do things differently. It is time that we start to truly work collectively,” ani Leonen nang maging guest speaker sa 46th Commencement Exercises of the University of the Philippines (UP) Tacloban College sa Tacloban City noong nakalipas na Hulyo 16.
“Democracy is a meaningless word unless we realize that we must take responsibility in making it more meaningful,” ayon kay Leonen.
“If we let our democracy stay as empty inspirational musings, we allow those who will take advantage of the status quo, ultimately dooming democracy to fail,” dagdag pa nito.
Hinikayat ni Leonen ang mga graduate na gawin ang kanilang bahagi para maging.makabuluhan ang demokrasya.
“Remember this mantra: Enough is good. Having enough is good. This is the value that will make you immune to greed and to more power. This is the value that will make you understand that there is more to this life — to this world — than your individual gain,:dagdag pa ni Leonen.
