In a historic moment, the legendary tattoo artist Apo Whang-Od embarked on a journey aboard a Philippine Air Force Blackhawk helicopter to meet with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on February 15, 2024.
Facilitated by the 205th Tactical Helicopter Wing, Apo Whang-Od, the revered 105-year-old Kalinga tattoo master, was safely transported from Buscalan, Kalinga, to Manila and eventually back to her village.
During the meeting, President Marcos Jr. honored Apo Whang-Od with an award for her unparalleled dedication to preserving traditional Filipino tattoo culture.
The Philippine Air Force takes pride in being part of this historical milestone of giving tribute to a legendary Filipino artist.
