Members of the Airport Police inspect the bag left behind at NAIA 2 which reportedly belonged to a mayor and contained some P1.4 million in cash. (JERRY S. TAN)

LEFT-BEHIND BAG FOUND WITH P1.4M CASH AT NAIA; OWNER IS A MAYOR

A security guard at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) domestic terminal 2 alerted terminal manager Erilyn Cortez Bautista around 3:06 PM Wednesday January 4, 2023 regarding a left- behind bag between bay 8 and bay 9.

The terminal manager immediately called the attention of PNP-Aviation Security Group (PNP-AVSEGROUP) and the Airport police Department regarding the left-behind bag.

Police immediately cordoned the area and dispatched bomb sniffing dogs to know if the bag contained an explosive device but later on, PNP cleared the bag of explosives or any devices related to explosives.

The bag was brought to the Lost and Found Section of terminal 2 where police, including the terminal manager and the security guard, inspected the contents of the bag.

They found personal belongings, some Malaysian Ringgits, Macbook Air, wallet, identification cards, a passport, assorted ATM’s, a checkbook and Philippine peso amounting to P1,427,760 cash.

Later on police found out through the passport that the bag belonged to Maluso, Basilan Mayor Hanie A. Bud who just arrived at NAIA terminal 2 from Zamboanga.

Police tried to reach the said Mayor through social media (FB) about the bag containing more than a million pesos now at the Lost and Found Section of terminal 2. (JERRY S. TAN)
