A 63-year-old Korean national was arrested in the early hours of May 27, 2025, at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 after authorities intercepted an attempt to smuggle illegal drugs during routine security screening.
At approximately 1 a.m., operatives of the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (IADITG) conducted an operation at the Final Security Screening Checkpoint of the International Departure Area, which led to the apprehension of the suspect, who was scheduled to board a flight bound for Incheon, South Korea.
A substance believed to be Methamphetamine Hydrochloride, commonly known as shabu, was discovered concealed in the suspect’s sling bag. The seized illegal drug has an estimated standard value of P4,000.00.
In addition to the illegal drugs, authorities also recovered drug paraphernalia, cellular phones, travel documents, and identification cards.
The suspect is currently in custody and will be facing charges for violation of Section 4, Article II of Republic Act No. 9165, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, which penalizes the importation of dangerous drugs.
