KOREAN FUGITIVE NA ‘WANTED’ SA LARGE-SCALE INVESTMENT FRAUD, DINAKIP NG BI-FSU

ISANG South Korean national na wanted sa kasong large-scale fraud sa Seoul ang dinakip ng Bureau of Immigration-Fugitive Search Unit (BI-FSU) operatives.

Sa kanyang ulat, kinilala ni FSU head Rendel Ryan Sy ang Koreano na si Jun Hwanhwi, 45, na dinakip nitong February 18 sa Sapphire Street, Ortigas Center, Pasig City.


Ayon kay Sy, ang operation ay isinagawa sa pakikipag-ugnayan sa South Korean authorities, Philippine National Police – Anti-Cybercrime Group Cyber Patrolling and Intelligence Unit, Eastern Police District’s District Intelligence Division at government intelligence forces at alinsunod sa warrant of deportation na inisyu noong 2021 matapos ma-tag ang banyaga bilang ‘undesirable alien for posing a risk to public safety and security.’

Napag-alaman kay BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval na isang Interpol Red Notice ang inisyu laban sa fugitive kasunod ng paglabas ng arrest warrant ng Gwangju District Court kaugnay ng kasong fraud sa ilalim ng South Korea’s Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes.

Sinabi ni Sandoval na batay sa reports ng South Korean government, “the subject allegedly orchestrated a large-scale investment scam in 2018. He first persuaded a victim to invest in bonds, defrauding approximately KRW 500 million in two separate transactions.”


” He was said to have later convinced the same victim to co-purchase stocks, swindling an additional KRW 200 million and in the succeeding months, he allegedly extracted another KRW 268 million in multiple installments by falsely claiming urgent funds were needed for a sibling’s medical treatment. Total losses exceeded KRW 900 million, ani Sandoval.

Si Hwanhwi ay inilipat na sa BI Warden Facility para sa kanyang deportation proceedings.
