The Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported the arrest of a South Korean couple wanted by the Interpol and authorities in their country for large-scale fraud.

Identified as Choi Jeongyun and Kim Minwoo, both 41-years-old, the couple was arrested last April 4 at their residence along Gallery Drive, Bgy Carmona, Makati City after the BI received information from the South Korean government about the crimes Choi and Kim committed.

Upon deportation, their names will be included in our blacklist to prevent them from re-entering the country.

BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval said that records show that the two aliens are already overstaying, as they both arrived in the country was in 2019 and have not left since then.

Choi and Kim are both subjects of red notices by the Interpol due to arrest warrants that were issued against them by the Chucheon district court in Korea.

Authorities alleged that the couple engaged in voice phishing operations on the internet which enabled them to defraud their victims of more than US$840,000 by pretending to be bankers or representatives of a financial institution.

Choi allegedly worked as a profit manager while Kim was employed as manager and telemarketer for the syndicate since 2017.

The couple is detained at the BI detention facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City where they will remain while awaiting deportation.
