THE elder sister of actress Kim Chiu is asking for the reduction of the more than P5 million bail recommended by the court for her provisional liberty.
Lakambini Chiu was arrested after Kim filed before the Quezon City Regional Trial Court 124 counts of qualified theft against her, allegedly after discovering serious financial discrepancies and missing funds in their business operations, amounting to about P44 million.
Kim has filed the formal complaint at the Department of Justice in Quezon City on December 2, 2025.
Lakambini was then arrested by authorities in Mandaluyong City days ago, by virtue of a warrant issued by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 24 which also set her bail at ?5,838,000 so she could be released from detention at the Kamuning Police Station.
Allegedly, an internal audit revealed that substantial amounts tied to company assets were missing while Lakambini managed operations and Kim’s legal team tried to settle the issue internally through multiple meetings before escalating the matter to the court.
Reportedly, the money in question was used for gambling.
Kim said that filing a complaint against her sister was painful for her, but that she had to do so to protect her business and employees.
