Jordanian-Israeli wanted in UAE, arrested by BI

THE Bureau of Immigration (BI) said it has arrested a Jordanian-Israeli national wanted for a string of criminal cases by authorities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente identified the alien fugitive as 45-year-old Tarek Nihad Siam, who was apprehended last Wednesday by operatives from the BI’s fugitive search unit (FSU) at the headquarters of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Ermita, Manila.

Morente said the BI took Siam under its legal custody after the NBI informed the bureau about the alien’s arrest last Jan. 26 for illegal gun possession and slight physical injuries.

“He will remain under the physical custody of the NBI pending resolution of the criminal cases against him by our local courts,” the BI chief said.

According to the Interpol’s national central bureau (NCB) in Manila, Siam is wanted in Abu Dhabi for physical assault, indecent assault and alcohol abuse.

A final judgement sentencing Siam to one-year imprisonment was already rendered by a court in the emirate, the NCB added.

A newspaper article published in May 2017 also alleged that Siam was also being sought by UK authorities in connection with the hijacking of two luxury yachts in Dubai that were used by human traffickers and gun runners.

The said yachts were originally managed by a company owned by Siam, and UK authorities were still trying to locate the boats which are believed to have been moved to the Philippines.

Siam reportedly intended to retire in the Philippines, and has not left since he arrived in January 2020. (Jantzen Tan)
