Italy-based Filipina gymnast bags gold, 2 bronzes in Bulgaria

Italy-based Filipina gymnast and Asian Junior medalist Jasmine Althea Ramilo won three medals, including a gold, in the International Rhythmic Gymnastics Tournament – Olympic 74 Cup on Feb. 2 in Sofia, Bulgaria.

The 17-year-old rhythmic gymnast sensation came out with nearly flawless performance in the hoop event to clinch the gold and settled for two bronze medals in ball and clubs categories.

Ramilo, whose parents came from Santa Catalina, Ilocos Sur, was the only gymnast who represented the Philippines. She was joined by her Italian coach Claudia Mancinelli of Ginnastica Fabriano.

In November last year, Ramilo clinched the gold medal in the Maribor International Rhythmic Gymnastics tournament in Slovenia.

Ramilo was also the country’s lone medalist with bronze in the 19th Junior Rhythmic Gymnastics Asian Championships in Manila in June last year.

She is preparing for two big competitions — Sofia World Cup on April 4-6 and Baku World Cup 2025 on April 18-20.

In Facebook posts on Wednesday, the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) congratulated Ramilo, wishing her “the best of luck” in her upcoming tournaments.
