HOSTILE MOTORIZED BOAT EXPLODES IN SAMAR

A motorized boat exploded in Catbalogan City around 4AM, August 22, 2022 while on gunfight with government troops.

According to AFP’s Joint Task Force Storm Cpt Ryan Layug, a tipster sent an information that a group of armed individuals boarded a motorized boat with boxes from a shoreline north of Catbalogan City. Soldiers immediately conducted water-borne interdiction operation at the reported vicinity. Upon approach to the suspected boat, a megaphone was used to advise the passengers to submit for plain view inspection.

However, while the soldier on megaphone is yet to finish the verbal advisory, passengers from motorized boat fired shots towards the government troops. An encounter ensued. During the gunfight, for reasons still being determined, the hostile boat suddenly exploded.

AFP’s JTF Storm Commander Major General Edgardo De Leon PA confirmed this, “indeed there was a waterborne interdiction operations conducted against a hostile motorized boat this morning”.

“We are firm on our commitment to support our Local Government Units of bringing peace to the people of Eastern Visayas by ending local communist armed conflict. We shall also be an active partner of the PNP in law enforcement. Our people long deserve peace and prosperity” De Leon concluded. (VICTOR BALDEMOR)
