Just recently, the official social media account of Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna had been faked, apparently by her political foes.
Owing to this, the city government of Manila issued a warning to the public, particularly Manilans, for them not to be misled in any way.
“We ask the public to help report this unauthorized social media account impersonating the City Mayor,” the mayor said in her official Facebook account.
Mayor Honey maintains just one legitimate Facebook page, which was created for the purpose of providing the public, especially the residents of Manila whom she serves, accurate and updated information on all of the activities, programs and other goings-on in her administration.
It is also publicly known that aside from the lone official Facebook account of ‘Dra. Honey Lacuna,’ another legitimate source of information about Manila is the ‘Manila Public Information Office or (MPIO) Facebook account.
Through these FB accounts too, our dear mayor imparts her important announcements, messages and airs her ‘The Capital Report’ where she discusses all the major activities and programs of government being undertaken under her stewardship.
It is worth noting that the purported “details’ of the fake account was full of basic grammatical errors. It was downright ridiculous that those behind the fake account could not even perfect simple grammar.
Apparently, the kind of intellect — or more aptly, lack of it— of those who were paid to impersonate the account of our good mayor and those who ordered the job are one and the same. Rotten.
Just the same, we in the city government consider this development as another validation that we, under the stewardship of our very hard-working and dedicated mayor, are indeed on the right track in our efforts to provide Manila residents the best service possible.
This is because those against the sitting local government have obviously run out of gimmicks and materials for black propaganda that they have now turned to mimicking the legitimate social media account of Mayor Honey in an attempt to flood it with false information.
Obviously too, the social media account they have created did not take off, otherwise, why the need to created a fake account using the photo of Mayor Honey?
These clowns do not seem to run out of ways to attempt at smearing the reputation of the sitting local officials.
As long as we know we are doing things right and put the interests of Manila in our foremost consideration, I believe that no amount of black propaganda can destroy the city government.
The people of Manila can distinguish between lies and the truth and prefer proof of good service than empty promises coupled with disinformation.
This they showed when they voted for Mayor Honey during the las elections and gave her an overwhelming victory. I suggest that the city government’s political foes try accepting defeat and moving on and run again in 2025.
Better yet, as I have suggested in my previous column, they can maybe try running in the upcoming barangay elections to test the water and know if the residents in the barangay where they are registered will even vote for them.
