This early, the camp of a desperate politician who was overwhelmingly defeated by Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna already has it eyes set on the 2025 elections and is not one bit ashamed of it.
I was shown a screenshot of a social media post showing a fake ‘survey’ which purportedly shows Alex Lopez leading, among a pack of personalities who are likely to run for mayor of Manila in 2025.
Funny thing is, the ‘results’ of the said fake ‘survey’ was posted in a Facebook account which was created to serve as a black propaganda tool against Mayor Honey Lacuna. It only came about after Mayor Honey won the 2022 elections handily, posting the widest margin ever in the history of local elections in Manila.
Records have it that Mayor Honey received a staggering total of 538,595 votes. Trailing her as very far second was Alex Lopez who got 166,908 only and Amado Bagatsing with just 118,694 votes. When combined, the total of votes received by Lopez and Bagatsing is only 285,602.
This means that Mayor Honey is still ahead by 252,993 votes and this kind of record is a very hard act to follow.
I’m sure Manilans will still be able to remember that in the last elections, similar fake surveys came up one after another and even got published in some tabloids that are apparently under the payroll of Mayor Honey’s political rivals.
Clearly, the fake surveys then, showing Mayor Honey purportedly trailing behind, did not work and no one believed it, as shown by the number of votes she got when election results were finally out.
The very same old lies that were junked by the voters of Manila in the last elections are again being peddled recently by Mayor Honey’s political foes via yet, another fake survey.
The fake survey, which makes it appear that Mayor Honey is trailing behind Lopez, is currently being floated in the social media account which is also being used as a medium for black propaganda against Mayor Honey. This only goes to show who is actually behind the FB black prop account.
Again, as I have stated in my last column, I challenge Lopez to file his certificate of candidacy (CoC) and try running as chairman in the barangay where he is registered, although everybody knows that he is not a resident of Manila.
If and when he wins, which I seriously doubt, then he could maybe try his luck once again and run against Mayor Honey in fair and honest elections. Until then, it would be better for him to stop all the smear campaign and false advertising of himself because, and I stress this, these rotten strategies did not work in his favor the first time round.
The residents of Manila are intelligent voters and they could not be taken for a ride just like that. They know if they are being duped and most definitely, they know the track record of each candidate and who is always there to actually help them in their times of need.
Certainly, they also do not want being taken for a fool and being fed non-stop lies, specially by politicians who have not even given them a single face mask when the pandemic hit.
