Emergency Meeting Held After Magnitude 5.1 Earthquake in General Nakar, Quezon

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Operations Center (NDRRMOC) held an emergency meeting via video teleconferencing with Office of Civil Defense (OCD) regional offices from the NCR, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, and MIMAROPA regions, following directives from Secretary of Defense and NDRRMC Chairman Gilberto C. Teodoro Jr., to assess the impact of a recent earthquake near Quezon.

The quake occurred around 12:17 PM, with a magnitude of 5.1 and a shallow depth of about 6 kilometers. Its epicenter was located roughly 24 kilometers north-northwest of General Nakar. The earthquake was of tectonic origin and was felt across multiple areas, with intensities reported from I to IV.


Initial reports from OCD regional offices indicate the affected areas and their respective intensities as follows:

Intensity I: Olongapo City, Aurora (Dingalan)
Intensity II: Bulacan (Angat, Calumpit, Bulakan, Norzagaray, CSJDM, San Ildefonso), Las Piñas City, Parañaque City, Taguig City, Mandaluyong City
Intensity III: Bulacan (Pandi, Pulilan, Malolos, DRT), Pampanga (CSFP), Caloocan City, Malabon City, Makati City, Quezon City, Navotas City
Intensity IV: City of Manila, Pasay City, Marikina City

As of now, there have been no reports of damage to structures or infrastructure. Residents in the affected areas experienced mild tremors, with stronger shaking reported in parts of Manila, Pasay, and Marikina. Authorities confirmed that no injuries or damages have been recorded at this time.


Following the guidance of Office of Civil Defense Administrator and NDRRMC Executive Director Usec. Ariel F. Nepomuceno, officials discussed ongoing assessments and the safety of critical infrastructure, including dams such as IPO and Angat in Region III. All regions are actively monitoring for aftershocks and potential impacts.

The authorities urge residents to stay calm, remain vigilant, and prepare for possible aftershocks. A follow-up update is scheduled at 3:00 PM today to share further information. Residents are advised to follow official advisories and stay alert.
