Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte made his first physical appearance at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague on September 16, 2026, during a court hearing regarding his upcoming trial for crimes against humanity.
It was his first time in the courtroom in person since his transfer to the ICC in March 2025.
The 81-year-old Duterte, who sported a long hair compared to his usual look, sat during the more than one hour of hearing with his lawyers, wearing a black suit and white shirt and a head piece.
According to his lawyers, Duterte suffers from severe memory loss and cognitive decline but the prosecution says he is still fit to stand trial.
His trial begins on November 30, 2026.
The prosecution was said to have dumped 50,000 pieces of evidence while the defense had 62,000.
