DOTr-CAAP completes 169 airport projects in 55 airports nationwide

DESPITE the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) ensured that aviation sector initiatives under the “Build, Build, Build” project continued to progress and were completed. This determination has resulted in the completion of 169 airport projects in 55 airports nationwide.

In Luzon, 63 airport projects in 23 airports were completed. These include the inauguration of the country’s Most Scenic Gateway’—Bicol International Airport (BIA), the expanded Puerto Princesa International Airport, as well as the completion of development projects in Sangley Airport, Tuguegarao Airport, Laoag International Airport, Vigan Airport, Lingayen Airport, Palanan Airport, Cauayan Airport, Calapan Airport, San Vicente Airport and more.

Meanwhile in Visayas, 58 airport projects in 17 airports were completed. These include the completion and inauguration of the first eco-airport in the country, Bohol-Panglao International Airport (BPIA), and the renovation of airports such as Kalibo International Airport, Catarman Airport, Antique Airport, Kabankalan Airport, Roxas Airport, Bantayan Airport, Dumaguete Airport, Siquijor Airport, Ubay Airport, Biliran Airport, Borongan Airport, Calbayog Airport, Maasin Airport, Ormoc Airport, and Tacloban Airport.


Lastly, in Mindanao, 48 development projects in 15 airports were completed such as the PTB expansion, renovation, and modernization of Zamboanga Airport, General Santos Airport, and Camiguin Airport as well as the completion of improvement works in other airports such as Surigao Airport, Dipolog Airport, Jolo Airport, Ipil Airport, Pagadian Airport, Sanga-Sanga Airport, Ozamiz Airport, Mati Airport, Cotabato Airport, Siargao Airport, and Davao International Airport.

In the years to come, CAAP shall continue to be committed and determined to pursue aviation development to grant the country the convenience, economic prosperity, and connectivity air transport provides.
