Nagpahayag ng suporta ang Department of Health (DOH) sa panukala ni Department of Finance (DOF) Secretary Ralph Recto na tuluyan nang ipagbawal ang mga disposable vape products sa bansa.
Ayon sa DOH, ang lahat ng vape products ay may dulot na panganib sa kalusugan, kabilang na rito ang mga e-cigarette or vaping product use-associated lung injury (EVALI), nicotine addiction, at respiratory at cardiovascular diseases.
“The Department of Health (DOH) supports the proposal of the Secretary of Finance to ban disposable vapes in particular, and vapor products in general due to their harmful effects on our health and the environment,” anang DOH, sa isang pahayag. “Disposable vapes and vapor products pose significant health risks including e-cigarette or vapor product associated lung injury (EVALI), nicotine addiction, and respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, among others.”
Sinabi pa ng DOH na ang mga disposable vapes ay maaaring magresulta sa electronic waste na may hatid na panganib sa kapaligiran at kalusugan.
Gawa rin anila ito sa plastik at ginagamitan ng baterya na hindi biodegradable at hindi rin madaling i-recycle.
“Disposable vapes are also made with plastic and batteries which are not easily recyclable or biodegradable. These items result in electronic waste (e-waste) that contains harmful chemicals that can seep into soil and water sources, posing risks to both the environment and public health,” anang DOH.
Nauna rito, ipinanukala ni Recto noong Martes na i-ban na ang disposable vapes sa bansa.
Ayon kay Recto, karamihan kasi sa mga disposable vapes ay hindi rehistrado sa Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) at hindi nagbabayad ng excise taxes.
Pinaalalahanan na rin naman ni Health Secretary Ted Herbosa ang Philippine National Police (PNP) na tiyakin na ang mga menor de edad ay walang access sa vapes.
Nababahala rin ang kalihim sa dumaraming bilang ng mga kabataan na gumagamit ng vape bunsod ng panganib na hatid ng nikotina sa kalusugan ng tao.
