Nagpalabas ang Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) ng moratorium sa employment at deployment ng seasonal workers sa South Korea.
Nangangahulugan ito na suspendido muna ang pagpapadala ng mga seasonal workers sa naturang bansa.
Sa Advisory No. 1, Series of 2024, na inilabas ng DMW nitong Lunes, nabatid na ang moratorium ay inilabas alinsunod sa resulta ng high-level consultation na ginawa nila sa Embassy of the Republic of Korea, Bureau of Immigration, at Department of Foreign Affairs.
“The public is hereby informed that a notice of moratorium on the employment and deployment of seasonal workers is issued as a result of the high-level consultation with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, the Bureau of Immigration, and the Department of Foreign Affairs,” anang DMW.
Layunin anila nito na mapalakas ang proteksyon sa karapatan ng mga seasonal workers, bunsod na rin ng mga nangyayaring illegal recruitment, gayundin ng labor at welfare cases.
At sa gitna na rin nang nakabinbin pang review sa interagency issuance ng Seasonal Worker Program na magtatatag ng framework para sa interagency cooperation at standards para sa overseas deployment, alinsunod sa existing DMW rules and regulations sa employment ng mga landbased workers, at sa konsultasyon na rin sa mga stakeholders.
Sinabi ng DMW na ang kautusan ay epektibo na sa lalong madaling panahon. “This Order shall take effect immediately and until further notice.”
