DA SEEKS PAF HELP FOR THE FARMERS

Representatives from the Department of Agriculture (DA) headed by ASec Kristine Evangelista, DA Spokesperson, paid a courtesy call to Commanding General, PAF, MGEN STEPHEN P PARREÑO PAF on January 19, 2023 at the Headquarters Philippine Air Force in Col Jesus Villamor Air Base, Pasay City.

The visit was intended to initiate exploratory talks on how the PAF can contribute to the DA’s efforts of helping farmers find markets for their goods. This initiative will ensure that farm produce are not wasted because of lack of means to transport them where they can be sold to potential buyers.

The productive engagement paved way to further explore possibilities of utilizing “excess capacities” of PAF air assets by jibing the transport of farm goods from the provinces to Metro Manila and other key cities. Utilizing extra cargo spaces during PAF flight missions for this purpose will encourage efficiency in the use of military resources as well as help the agriculture industry while promoting food security.

Likewise, the possibility of putting up Kadiwa Centers in PAF bases was explored which will enable PAF personnel and their families to have access to cheaper and fresh farm produce direct from the local farmers in their areas.

Furthermore, the meeting considered the necessity of crafting appropriate agreements between the DND and the DA to effect these proposed initiatives.

The PAF, through engagements like this, remains committed as a reliable partner for security and national development. (VICTOR BALDEMOR RUIZ)
