Camp Lapulapu, Cebu City – Following the death of Rogelio Posadas alias Putin, the Secretary of the NPA’s Komiteng Rehiyon Negros-Cebu-Bohol-Siquijor (KR NCBS) in Binalbagan, Negros Occidental and the death of seven (7) NPA terrorist in Bobon, Northern Samar, the CPP–NPA in the Visayas region sustains its losing streak with another series of setbacks against the government troops.

It was revealed that from May 04 to 05, a series of government-initiated armed encounters transpired in the region, wherein the terrorist group is on the losing end of both incidents.

On May 04, the encounter transpired in Brgy Buenavista, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental between members of the 94th Infantry Battalion and members of the NPA’s SDG Platoon, Central Negros 2 (CN2) under Komiteng Rehiyon Negros-Cebu-Bohol-Siquijor (KR NCBS). The incident resulted in the death of one (1) NPA terrorist and the recovery of several war materiel, including one (1) M653 assault rifle. Likewise, on May 05 another encounter transpired in Brgy Capacuhan, Palapag, Northern Samar between members of the PNP’s Special Action Force and members of the NPA terrorists. Two (2) NPA terrorists died during the said encounter.

Apart from the said encounters, five (5) members of the different NPA-affiliated mass organizations in Samar denounced their support from the terrorist group and pledged their allegiance to the government. Meanwhile, another arms cache from the NPA terrorist was recovered by members of the 74th Infantry Battalion in Brgy Magsaysay, Mapanas, Northern Samar. The arms cache, which was discovered through information provided by a former rebel, contains one (1) AK47 assault rifle with several live ammunition; one (1) homemade shotgun; and six (6) anti-personnel mines.

Lieutenant General Benedict M Arevalo PA, the Commander of the Visayas Command (VISCOM) emphasized that “We have achieved significant gains against the CPP–NPA with the reduction of their manpower and firepower capabilities, disrupting their resource generation activities, and neutralizing their support system. This is a clear manifestation that the whole-of-nation approach continues to gain ground in the Visayas region, as the terrorist group continues to crumble and suffer defeat.”

Lt Gen Arevalo urged the few remaining members of the CPP–NPA to return to the folds of the law “Rest assured that we will never stop until justice is served for the atrocities that the CPP–NPA have caused to our country and our people. As such, we once again call on the few remaining members of the NPA terrorists to lay down their arms while they still can. Follow the lead of your former comrades who are now enjoying peaceful and progressive lives with their families. Answer the call of the government and return to the folds of the law before it’s too late.”
