Camp Lapulapu, Cebu City – The CPP-NPA in the Visayas region sustains its losing streak, as the terrorist group once again suffers a crushing defeat at the hands of the government troops.
Seven high-powered firearms and several other war materials were recovered by the members of the 94th Infantry Battalion following an intense firefight that lasted for about 15 minutes against the remnants of the NPA’s weakened guerilla front, Central Negros 2 (CN2) of the Komiteng Rehiyon Negros, Cebu, Bohol and Siquijor (KR NCBS).
After the firefight, two NPA terrorists yield to the troops, as they were left behind by their comrades who withdraw in disarray knowing that the government troops will conduct pursuit, according to Lt. Col Israel Galorio, chief Public Information Office AFP Visayas Command.
The seven firearms include three M16 rifles; two M14 rifles, one M4 rifle and one Garland rifle. Other recovered war materiel include one generator, assorted magazine assemblies; several assorted live ammunition; personal belongings and subversive documents.
Lieutenant General Benedict M Arevalo PA, the Commander of the Visayas Command (VISCOM) expressed: “We are determined to end the local communist armed conflict in the region, the soonest possible time. Our efforts will continue to be relentless and we will sustain the momentum.”
“With these series of setbacks, the CPP-NPA in the region are now hard pressed against the wall and we intend to keep it that way. We will not give them a space to breathe. They will only have two options, either return to the folds of the law and live or continue wasting their lives and die for nothing,” Arevalo added.
It can be recalled that on November 07, a series of encounters transpired in Brgy Yao-Yao, Cauayan, Negros Occidental that resulted in the death of two NPA terrorists and the recovery of three firearms and one Anti-Personnel Mine.
Lt Gen Arevalo then lauded the troops, as he urged the remnants of the CPP-NPA in the Visayas to return to the folds of the law, “I commend our troops for their unwavering commitment to defeat the CPP-NPA and end their reign of terror in the Visayas region. As to the few remaining members of the terrorist group, your days are numbered. Lay down your arms now and return to the folds of the law while you still can.”
