Matapos na pagtibayin ng Korte Suprema ang legalidad ng Republic Act 12232, makakapag-focus na umano ang Commission on Elections (Comelec) sa isinasagawa nitong paghahanda para sa nalalapit na pagdaraos ng Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) sa susunod na taon.
Sinabi ni Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia na napapanahon ang paglalabas ng desisyon ng Korte Suprema dahil ang naturang halalan ay idaraos na sa Nobyembre 2, 2026.
“This, hopefully, would finally put an end to endless speculations concerning the BSKE. Now that the SC have spoken, the Comelec can now focus on our timelines and our preparations,” pahayag pa ni Garcia.
Nauna rito ay ibinasura ng Supreme Court ang consolidated petition na kumukwestiyon sa constitutionality ng batas na nagre-reschedule ng BSKE.
Pinagtibay rin nito ang legalidad ng RA 12232, at sinabing ito ay “term-setting law”, na nagtakda ng four-year term at nagbabawal sa consecutive terms para sa barangay and SK officials.
“It is not a law postponing elections; the rescheduling of the elections is merely incidental,” ayon sa Supreme Court.#

Bago nito ay binasura ng Supreme Court ang consolidated petition na kumukwestyon sa constitutionality ng batas na nagre-reschedule ng BSKE.
Kinatigan din nito ang legalidad ng RA 12232 at sinabing ito ay “term-setting law” na nagtatakda ng four-year term at nagbabawal sa consecutive terms para sa barangay at SK officials.
