THE Philippine National Police thanked the public, especially the Chinese community, for the safe and peaceful celebration of the Chinese lunar new year.
The PNP leasdership said it may not have been as festive compared to the past years, however, before the pandemic happened, the simple celebration still became meaningful because no untoward incident was recorded nationwide.
Although Chinese temples chose to still follow some New Year greeting rituals, they were not open to the public making the ceremonies more intimate.
“The Chinese New Year celebration was generally peaceful. No one is exempted from our health protocol. Just like last January 1, we discouraged the gathering of people since the threat of Covid-19 is still everywhere,” PNP Chief General Dionardo Carlos said.
Carlos said the PNP continues to monitor public establishments since the celebration may continue considering that more areas are now downgraded to Covid alert level 2—easing some guidelines including the lifting of age restrictions for those going outdoors.
