Chief of Staff, AFP leads demilitarization of firearms in Maguindanao

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City – The Chief of Staff, AFP, LtGen Bartolome Vicente Bacarro (CSAFP) spearheaded the demilitarization of the 307 captured, confiscated, surrendered, and recovered (CCSR) firearms and equipment at Headquarters 6ID in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao on December 9.

The activity is one of the highlights during the CSAFP’s visit to 6ID headquarters in time for the celebration of the yuletide season. It aims to boost the morale of the troops, especially those who will still be on duty during the yuletide break.

AFP information office said, 307 assorted firearms and equipment were captured, confiscated, surrendered, and recovered by 6ID units in Central Mindanao from January to December 2022.

The demilitarization of firearms is the destruction of firearms whereby all firearm parts shall be rendered ineffective for use as a component or a complete firearm. This will be followed by disposing of the CCSR firearms through the burning of the metal parts and scraps.

In his statement, LtGen Bacarro commended the 6ID for their contribution to the accomplishment of the AFP mission.

“This ceremony may just look as an ordinary activity; however, this has an effect on the community as we were able to remove these firearms from the hands of the bad people that may cause harm to the public. As we demilitarize these firearms, we contribute to the attainment of a peaceful community as we aim towards economic improvement and development,” Gen Bacarro said. (VICTOR BALDEMOR RUIZ)
