The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) is closely monitoring the development of Tropical Depression “Amang” and its potential impact on airports in the Bicol region, Northern Samar and the northern part of Eastern Samar.
CAAP spokesman Eric Apolonio said that CAAP has activated its contingency plans for severe weather disturbances in order tto ensure the safety of all passengers and airport personnel in case of flight disruptions due to the tropical depression.
The Authority is also closely coordinating with airline operators and other concerned agencies to minimize hazard and impact, and ensure the efficient resumption of flight operations once weather conditions permit.
As part of the preparations, CAAP Area Center 5 led by Area Manager Cynthia M. Tumanut conducted inspections and assessments of airport facilities in Bicol, Bulan, Sorsogon, Daet, Masbate, Naga, and Virac, as well as their equipment to ensure readiness for any eventualities.
The Authority is also closely monitoring weather updates and advisories from PAGASA, and will provide updates to the public as necessary.
CAAP reminds the public to stay informed and follow the instructions of airport personnel and airline operators, particularly in cases of flight cancellations or delays. Passengers are further advised to check with airlines for any updates on their flights.
Meanwhile, the Media Affairs Division of the Manila International Airport Authority said there are four (4) domestic flights are cancelled as of 8:30 AM Wednesday.
Cebu Pacific flights 5J 821/822 Mania-Virac-Manila and Cebgo flights DG 6113/6114 Manila-Naga-Manila due to bad weather in the destinations.
