The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) lifted the Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) which they issued due to corrective maintenance work on their Air Traffic Management System (ATMS) at the CAAP Compound in Pasay City.
CAAP spokesman Eric Apolonio said they completed the phase 1 maintenance work on Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) which they started at 1:50 AM Wednesday, May 3, 2023 and ended at 3:58 AM same day after the AVR undergone repair and parts replacement including testing, calibration and cleaning without disruption as the operations at NAIA and in other airports in the country are now back to normal.
Apolonio also said that on May 17, 2023 phase 2 will start another maintenance work on the Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), the upgrading of the Air Traffic Management System (ATMS) A/B power supply that involve the installation of a bypass panel to provide seamless ATMS operation and the reconfiguration of the existing distribution panel to segregate ATM system A (voice) and system B (data), resulting with the UPS and AVR serving as each other’s backup in case the power supply encounters a problem.
The maintenance work will be conducted from 12 midnight to 6AM on May 17, 2023 as CAAP will issue another NOTAM and fully coordinate with and advise concerned stakeholders such as air carriers and airport operators.
CAAP assures the public that once the maintenance activity is completed, operations at the ATMC will resume as normal and will allow CAAP-ATMC to serve the flying public better and ensure continued safety, Apolonio added.
CAAP is trying their best not to repeat the January 1 incident when the ATMC bogged down that paralyzed the aviation industry.
