The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) is advising the flying public, airline operators, general aviation operators and all concerned aviation stakeholders that following the reported eruption of Mayon Volcano at 3:43 a.m. on May 03, 2026, airspace restrictions have been implemented for flight safety.
CAAP spokesman Eric Apolonio said that based on NOTAM B1875/26 (replacing B1856/26), aircraft are not allowed to operate from the surface up to 11,000 feet within a 6-kilometer radius from the summit of Mayon Volcano.
This precautionary measure is being enforced due to the potential hazards posed by volcanic ash, airborne particles, and sudden volcanic activity, which may affect aircraft engines, navigation systems, and overall flight safety.
Apolonio said all airline operators, pilots, dispatchers and aviation stakeholders are advised to closely coordinate with Air Traffic Services and monitor official updates before operating in affected areas.
The CAAAP continues to closely monitor the situation in coordination with relevant government agencies to ensure the safety and security of air navigation, he added.
