The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), in cooperation with its ASEAN partners and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippine (CAAP), is hosting the fourth ARISE Plus Civil Aviation Project Workshop at Sofitel Philippines Plaza Manila from 13-15 December 2022. The workshop will focus on Unmanned Aircraft System Traffic Management (UTM/U-space) technologies and implementation.
The ARISE Plus Civil Aviation Project is an international technical cooperation project that aims to support ASEAN member states in various aviation domains and enhance connectivity and sectoral cooperation in transport in ASEAN as it develops an ASEAN Single Aviation Market (ASAM). The fourth workshop is the last for the year, with previous workshops focusing on topics such as promoting drone safety and public awareness, drone operations safety assessment, and the role of civil aviation authorities (CAAs) in UTM/U-space.
In his welcome remarks, CAAP Deputy Director General for Operations (DDGO) Captain Edgardo Diaz agreed on the importance of developing the ASEAN’s UAS Traffic Management (UTM) Services. “As aviation regulators, we must advance our ways to regulate this new actor in aviation and ensure safety without hampering its development. We have to ensure that we will be able to handle the vast number of operations safely and securely. Thus, this workshop is an excellent avenue to acquire knowledge from experts and learn how to manage these types of operations, and for the ASEAN Member States to take advantage of these initiatives,” DDGO Edgardo Diaz said.
Attendees at the workshop include civil aviation regulatory officials and experts on UTM/U-space and operations from ASEAN member states and EASA. The discussions cover UTM/U-space concepts and the tasks of civil aviation authorities (CAAs) with regard to UTM/U-space implementation and operation, as well as the integration of UTM/U-space in controlled airspace.
