The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) conducted a maintenance activity at the Philippine Air Traffic Management Center (ATMC) on January 22, 2023.
CAAP spokesman Eric Apolonio said the maintenance activity involved the replacement of the blowing/cooling fan for the second uninterruptible power supply (UPS) that is being used to power the Communications, Navigation, and Surveillance / Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) System housed at the Air Traffic Management Center (ATMC).
In anticipation of the power maintenance activity today, the CAAP issued a notice to airmen (NOTAM) (BO637/23) yesterday, 21 January 2023, at 8:53 PM to inform concerned airlines to be affected by the maintenance activity from 4:20AM-5:23AM, 22 January 2023.
After the successful maintenance activity which was undertaken by CAAP engineers and the equipment’s service provider, operations at the ATMC returned to normal at 6:09AM, with the NOTAM subsequently being cancelled at 6:16AM.
There were nine affected flights held at NAIA’s taxiway Charlie for departure and 38 flights that waited for clearance delivery during the short outage that was necessary to complete the maintenance activity.
The CAAP is grateful to the affected passengers for their patience during the said activity, said Apolonio. (JERRY S. TAN
