After making a bomb joke at approximately 10:56 a.m. on October 19, 2024 during the final passenger count for Cebu Pacific Flight 5J486 bound for Manila, two passengers were held by authorities.

The two, Reynaldo Aleroso and Ernesto Erise, were overheard making a bomb joke and in response, the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP AVSEU) and its Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit were immediately dispatched to the aircraft to ensure safety.

According to Engr. Eusebio Monserate of CAAP Area Center 6 Manager, all passengers were promptly deplaned for a thorough security inspection. The airline accommodated the affected passengers in the pre-departure area and provided them with light snacks while waiting.

After a comprehensive security check and clearance, Cebu Pacific Flight 5J486 successfully departed from Bacolod-Silay Airport at approximately 1 p.m.

“The safety of passengers remains the top priority of all involved agencies and airline partners. The public is reminded that bomb jokes are taken seriously and carry strict legal penalties,” said CAAP spokesman Eric Apolonio.

The two passengers involved are currently in custody of the PNP AVSEU for further investigation.
