The Bureau of Immigration (BI) satellite office in SM Aura, Taguig reported the interception of a Japanese fugitive on Tuesday.
In a report to BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco, BI SM Aura Alien Control Officer Evita Mercader detailed the arrest of Terashima Haruna, 27.
Terashima was arrested following an attempt to extend her tourist visa, having been in the country November 2022.
However, upon inspection by the officer, it was found that she has a pending deportation case.
BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval said the bureau received information from Japanese authorities about her case on February 2023. She has been tagged by the Japanese government as a fugitive from justice, for having an arrest warrant issued against her by the Tokyo Summary Court on September 2022 for theft, in violation of the Japanese Penal Code.
Terashima, together with other accomplices, reportedly impersonated police officers and an employee of the Japan Ministry of Finance to steal ATM Cards, Sandoval added.
Said Japanese will remain in the BI’s warden facility in Bicutan, Taguig pending the resolution of her deportation case, Sandoval added. (JERRY S. TAN)
