NAGSIMULA nang opisyal na manungkulan ngayong Lunes ang bagong-talagang Armed Forces of the Philippine Visayan Command chief si Commodore Oscar Canlas, Jr., kasunod ng isinagawang turnover ceremony na pinangunahan mismo ni AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner, Jr. sa Camp Lapu-Lapu, Barangay Apas, Cebu City.
Hinalinhan ni Canlas si dating VISCOM Commander Lieutenant General Benedict Arevalo sa idinaos na joint retirement and change of command ceremony sa Camp Lapu-Lapu.
Si Canlas ay miyembro ng Philippine Military Academy “Sambisig” Class of 1991, at dating deputy commander ni Arevalo at Inspector General ng VISCOM.
Bago itinalaga bilang pinuno ng VISCOM, si Arevalo ay nanungkulan sa Philippine Navy, kabilang ang Director of Naval Command and Staff School; Director of Littoral Combat Training School ng Littoral Combat Force; Commanding Officer ng BRP Bienvenido Salting (PG112), BRP General Mariano Alvarez (PS38), at BRP Pangasinan (PS31) at Inspector General ng Naval Education, Training and Doctrine Command (NETDC).
Sa kanyang mensahe, hiningi ni General Brawner ang suporta ng buong tropa VISCOM sa kanilang bagong Commander.
