Actress-beauty queen joins Army’s reserve force

Actress and beauty queen Aya Fernandez received her rank patch during the graduation ceremony of Basic Citizen Military Training Class 02-2022 at the Headquarters Philippine Army Grandstand, Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila on October 8, 2022.

Newly-minted reservists from all walks of life capped the 45-day Basic Citizen Military Training (BCMT) in a graduation ceremony with Philippine Army Assistant Chief of Staff for Reservist and Retiree Affairs, G9, Colonel Jaime R. Datuin as guest of honor and speaker at the Headquarters Philippine Army Grandstand, Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila.

“Bear in mind that effective today, you are now part of the Philippine Army—a reservist ready to serve with a heart of a volunteer,” Colonel Datuin said in his speech.

BCMT “Sinag-lahi” Class 02-2022 members come from various professional and academic backgrounds. Some are licensed professionals, artists, private sector employees, and college students who opted to undergo reservist training since their schools do not offer a Reserve Officers Training Corp (ROTC) program.
It can be noted that the new reservists underwent various training drills, disaster response lessons, and comprehensive lectures on soldiery as they progressed in their 45-day training.

The Philippine Army is beefing up its reserve units that will serve as the expansion base for the regular force in times of national emergencies, war, rebellion, or invasion. (VICTOR BALDEMOR)
