NAVAL STATION JOSE ANDRADA, Manila – The Commander of the Australian Fleet of the Royal Australian Navy, Rear Admiral Jonathan Earley, together with his staff visited the Philippine Navy headquarters on August 8, 2022 for the 5th iteration of the PN-RAN Navy To Navy Talks.
The visit started with a courtesy call to the Flag Officer in Command of the Philippine Navy, Vice Admiral Adeluis Bordado, by the delegation from the Royal Australian Navy led by Rear Admiral Earley.
The Philippine Navy delegation led by the Vice Commander, Rear Admiral Caesar Bernard Valencia, had a substantial discussion with the RAN contingent during the Navy To Navy Talks proper.
Highlights of the discussion covered a broad range of topics including common maritime security challenges, shared commitments with other liked-minded navies and engagement through multilateral trainings and exercises. Future opportunities for closer maritime cooperation, protection and promotion of prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region were also subjects of the discussion between the two Navies.
The Australian Fleet Commander’s visit is the latest of Australia’s efforts in promoting peace and stability in the two nations’ respective maritime regions. It can be recalled that the PN participated in Australia’s flagship engagement activity, Indo-Pacific Endeavour (IPE) in 2021, wherein PN Captain Constancio Reyes served as the task group’s deputy commander along with two other PN officers also playing key roles in the IPE task group.
