TIWALA ang Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) na hindi na muling makakabangon pa ang Communist New People’s Army Terrorists (CNTs) sa kanilang pagkalupig at tuluyang pagkawasak bunsod ng sunod sunod neyutralisasyon ng kanilang mga lider at guerrilla fighters.
Sa datos ng AFP nito lamang buwan ng Enero hanggang Marso ay umabot sa 266 kasapi ng komunistang grupo ang sumuko sa pamahalaan.
Ayon kay Col Jorry Baclor , AFP Public Information Office chief, karamihan ng mga sumuko ay nagmula sa mga NPA units sa Eastern Mindanao, na nasa 114 kasapi. Samantala 58 guerilla fighters ng CPP mula mga NPA units sa Western Mindanao ang nagsalong na ng kanilang mga sandata; habang 37 naman ang sumuko mula Southern Luzon; 36 sa Visayas; 20 sa Northern Luzon; at isa sa Palawan.
Kabilang sa pinakahuling sumuko si Maximo Catarata, Secretary ng Guerilla Front 3 (GF3),sa Davao del Norte dahilan na tuluyang pagkawasak ng nasabing NPA unit.
Nakapagtala rin 37 CNTs killed ang AFP sa kanilang ikinasang military operations, habang 29 ang nadakip o nahuli sa kanilang operations sa buong bansa, ani Col Baclor.
Kabilang sa most wanted NPAs na napatay ng militar sa engkwentro ay si Menardo Villanueva nang makasagupa nila ang mga tauhan ng Philippine Army 1001st Infantry Brigade sa Barangay Libudon, Mabini, nitong nakalipas na buwan ng January .
Si Villanueva ay commander ng NPA’s national operations command (NOC) at matagal na naging secretary ng National Democratic Front’s Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC).
Nagsilbi rin ito bilang pinuno ng Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) Mindanao Commission (KOMID) at Political Bureau Chief ng CPP’s central committee.
Samantala umaabot naman sa 492 high-powered and low-powered firearms ang nakumpiska , nabawi o isinuko nito lamang unang quarter ng 2022. Nakasamsam din ang military ng 148 anti-personnel mines na mahigpit na pinagbabawal ng International Humanitarian Law.
Sakanyang mensahe inihayag ni AFP Chief of Staff General Andres Centino ,: “As the nation’s primary protector against terrorists and other state adversaries, the AFP’s security operations, programs, and activities are rooted in our collective desire for peace and security.”
“Through working and cooperating with organizations and stakeholders, I know that we can get closer to achieving these mutual aspirations for our people,” sabi pa ni General Centino. (VICTOR BALDEMOR)
