22 TRAFFIC IN PERSON RESCUED

PHILIPPINE NAVY successfully rescued 22 individuals who were at risk of becoming victims of human trafficking at Sgt. Taha Private Wharf, Brgy Baliwasan, Zamboanga City last weekend.

Navy Public Information Office chief Commander Benjo Negranza, disclosed that their Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NFWM) operating units, lunch a successful anti human trafficking operation that resulted in rescuing 22 individuals.


According to report, joint operation was planned and implemented in coordination with various law enforcement agencies and Women and Children Protection Center – Mindanao Field Unit (WCPC-MFU) Department of Social Welfare and Development IX (DSWD IX), City Social Welfare, Development Office- Zamboanga City (CSWDO-ZC) and Regional Inter-agency Committee on Anti-Trafficking 9 (RIACAT9), after receiving intelligence report regarding suspected human trafficking operation.

The rescued individuals, comprising of 19 adults and 3 minors, were immediately taken to the Women and Children Protection Center – Mindanao Field Unit (WCPC-MFU) for further investigation, profiling, assessment, interviews, and evaluations.

Following this, they were transferred to the DSWD9 Processing Center for Displaced Persons.


This operation stands as a testament to the commitment of various government agencies and law enforcement units, especially the Philippines Navy, to combat human trafficking targeting the most vulnerable members of society, Cdr Negranza said.
