Two members of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) died in an encounter with Army’s 61st (Hunter) Battalion Alimodian town, in Iloilo.
The troops were responding to the tip-off of the local populace on the whereabouts of the CPP-NPA Terrorist in the area when they encountered more or less nine NPA members in Brgy Umingan.
The encounter that ensued for about 15-minutes resulted in the death of two NPAs.
The troops also recovered the following war materiel from the encounter site; one 1M16, one 1M16 defaced; four backpacks, one rifle grenade; one bandolier, five magazines; one stethoscope; and various subversive documents with high intelligence value.
In his message, MGen Benedict M Arevalo, the Commander of the Army’s 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division, said that the encounter is the result of the unwavering support of the local populace to the Army by giving timely and noteworthy information on the presence of NPA terrorists in the area.
“Your Army in Western and Central Visayas will always ensure the safety and security of the people in Western and Central Visayas and will not allow these communist terrorists to have any chance to unleash violence in the area,” said MGen Arevalo. (VICTOR RUIZ BALDEMOR)
