The Bureau of Immigration (BI) said its agents have arrested two Chinese nationals who have been in the bureau’s wanted list for blatantly violating the country’s penal and immigration laws.
In a statement, Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco bared that the two aliens were arrested in separate operation by immigration officers and elements under border control and intelligence unit (BCIU) chief Dennis Alcedo of the BI intelligence division at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
Tansingco identified one of the aliens as Cai Xiaoming, 43, who was intercepted on May 20 at NAIA’s Terminal 1 after BI officers found that the passenger’s name is in the bureau’s list of persons with court-issued hold departure orders (HDOs).
It was learned from Alcedo that Cai, who arrived from Quanzhou, China, was issued a HDO by the Pangasinan regional trial court in September after he was criminally charged for tax evasion.
Tansingco said the BI is already investigating how CAI managed to leave the country despite the said HDO. He was arrested pursuant to Section 37(a)7 of the Philippine Immigration Act of 1940 for evasion of departure immigration inspection.
The BI chief also disclosed that last May 24, BI agents also arrested at the NAIA 1 terminal Chinese fugitive Wang Zili, 27, who was about to leave for Shanghai.
Wang is allegedly one of 16 Chinese nationals who were recently placed in the BI’s watchlist after the bureau was informed that they are wanted in China for involvement in economic crimes.
Both Cai and Wang are presently detained at the BI warden facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City.
