“Always show a smiling face.”
Manila Acting Mayor Yul Servo urged city officials and employes to do this, as he led the City Hall’s flagraising ceremony on Monday.
In the same event, Servo also called on those present to wish for a safe and fruitful trip for Mayor Honey Lacuna, who flew to Buenos Aires to attend the C40 World Mayors Summit, which, he said, aims to focus on the serious issue of climate change and the important role that the local government plays in leading the efforts of providing protection for the environment. Mayors of C40 cities are on the leading edge of climate action, deploying a science-based and collaborative approach to help the world limit global heating and build healthy, equitable and resilient communities.
While Lacuna is gone, Servo is acting mayor while his sister, third Councilor Apple Nieto, is the vice mayor and concurrent Presiding Officer of the Manila City Council, being the councilor who received the highest number of votes in the last elections.
Servo said Mayor Honey left a directive to continue the campaign for orderliness, cleanliness and the delivery of honest and efficient services to the people of Manila.
“Palaging pinapaalala sa atin ni Mayor Honey na ang serbisyo publiko ang pinakamataas na antas ng tawag sa paglilingkod at ito ay nagbibigay sa atin ng pagkakataon na baguhin ang buhay ng ibang tao at higit na mapagbuti ang mundo. Kaya pahalaganan nating lagi ang pagkakataon na maging mabuting lingkod bayan,” said Servo.
Alongside this, Servo appealed for the constant delivery of every service with a smile.
“Lagi tayong maghatid ng serbisyong may ngiti. Dapat lagi tayo naka-smile sa lahat ng lumalapit. ‘Wag nakasimangot. Dapat smiling face kasi pag nakangiti tayo, ‘yung lumalapit sa atin na may problema, luluwag at gagaan ang pakiramdam,” Servo said.
The acting mayor stressed that not everyone is given the rare opportunity to be of service to others, which is why public servants should give their best shot when performing their functions in government. (Baby Cuevas)
