NAGLABAS ng advisory ang Manila Health Department (MHD) kung saan pinapayuhan ang mga residente, partikular na yaong mga nakatira sa Districts 1 at 2, na magsuot ng facemasks at iwasang manatili sa labas ng tahanan nang matagal, dahil sa patuloy na air pollution na dulot ng Navotas Sanitary Landfill, na nasunog nito pang Abril 10.
Ayon kay MHD chief Dr. Grace Padilla, ang nasabing advisory ay higit lalo na para sa mga nakatatanda, bata, buntis at may sakit, gaya ng respiratory problems o hika. Tiniyak din niya ang patuloy na monitoring ng sitwasyon para sa proteksyon ng kalusugan ng mga taga-lungsod.
Sinabi pa ni Padilla ang “the advusory is meant to protect the residents as the haze, described as air polluted with fine smoke and dust particles from fire and ash, can cause a range of health hazards on the part of those who may inhale it.”
“Pinapaalalahanan ang lahat na magsuot ng face mask bilang proteksyon sa inyong kalusugan. Maraming Salamat po,” ani Padilla, kasabay ng pahayag na ang ‘polluted air’ ay maaring magdala ng hirap sa paghinga, pag-ubo, chest pain, eye irritation at paglala ng respiratory conditions gaya ng hika at iba pang lung diseases.
“The MHD made the recommendation to wear facemasks following the latest monitoring of four air quality stations under the Asia Blue Skies Project, which registered Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (UFSG) in the Anda Circle, San Sebastian Residences and Sta. Ana Hospital, while Puregold Tayuman fell under ‘Very Unhealthy’ status,” aniya.
Ang ‘unhealthy air’ ay naitala ayon sa Facebook post ng Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau.
Pito pang lungsod sa Metro Manila ang diumano ay apektado: Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Quezon City (Manila Observatory Compound and Commonwealth Avenue); San Juan bilang “unhealthy for sensitive groups” at Marikina and Valenzuela, na ang air condition ay naitalang “acutely unhealthy.’
